In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. We design, manufacture, and install radiation shielding and other products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, construction, industrial and research markets.

The Role – Payroll Officer

Reporting to the Finance Director, as the Payroll Officer you will collate and process information from factory attendance systems in order to pay employees, accurately maintain payroll data in our financial records, and provide internal reports. Your specific duties will include:

  • Weekly verification of hours worked by shop floor employees (circa 100 employees over two factories)
  • Weekly collation of data into payroll systems
  • Holidays, sickness and absence processing and controlling
  • Ensuring information is converted into pay details, with the creation of pay slips and initiation of payment to banks
  • Completing internal daily / weekly / monthly attendance and payroll reports
  • Reconciling and paying statutory deductions to relevant bodies (PAYE/NI etc.)
  • Entering payroll impact into company financial records
  • Processing and paying expenses for travel and subsistence
  • Assisting the wider Finance team, providing cover

The Package

As Payroll Officer, you will be working at our offices located on Sealand Road on the outskirts of Chester City Centre, and will benefit from:

  • Starting salary in the region of £25,000 to £28,000, with the level dependent on experience
  • Permanent contract, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5pm, and Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm

Our Requirements – Payroll Officer

  • Proven experience processing payroll
  • Excellent communication skills to connect and build relationships with stakeholders
  • Impeccable attention to detail
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills
  • Proactive with the ability to look for improvements in processes
  • Team player and have a ‘can do’ attitude
  • Flexibility towards tasks with the ability to effectively prioritise

Although not essential, experience of using Sage 50 (Payroll) and Focus (Time and Attendance) would be advantageous.
