Logistics Operative / Stores Person

We are one of the UK’s leading building materials suppliers, delivering lead sheet and a wide range of ancillary products to builders’ merchants nationwide.

In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. We design, manufacture, and install radiation shielding and other products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, construction, industrial and research markets.

The Role - Logistics Operative / Stores Person

Reporting to the Stores and Despatch Manager, you will work across our two factories controlling stock in and out of the company, booking all shipments and goods received, and taking responsibility for the security of all materials on site. Your specific duties will include:

  • Ensuring that health, safety and quality standards are complied with, including CLAW regulations
  • Ensuring the safety and security of all stock on site, controlling access as required
  • Maintaining adequate stock levels of all site consumables and packing materials
  • Participating in weekly, monthly and annual stocktakes
  • Receiving, locating, and issuing goods to production areas on request
  • Preparing and planning of ‘goods out’ by utilising Excel spreadsheets
  • Take receipt of all internal and external deliveries into the Stores department, completing all subsequent documentation
  • Producing all shipping documentation, ensuring goods are transferred in accordance with current UK export compliance and UK domestic shipping laws and regulations
  • Completing relevant paperwork and ensuring that all goods are packed securely for despatch
  • Occasionally, you'll be required to use the company van to pick up stock from suppliers and drop off stock to customers in the local area

The Package

As a Logistics Operative / Stores Person, you’ll benefit from:

  • Pay rate in the region of £10.88 per hour (equivalent to a salary of £22,630)

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 40 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 7am to 4:30pm and Friday 7:30am to 11:30am (flexibility will be required with hours worked).

You will be based at our premises in Chester, on the outskirts of the city centre conveniently located off Sealand Road.

Our Requirements – Logistics Operative / Stores Person

  • Proven experience within a similar Logistics Operative / Stores Person role, working with stock management systems and databases
  • A valid Counterbalance and Reach FLT licence is essential
  • A full and clean UK driving licence
  • IT literacy with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Excellent organisational skills with ability to work to deadlines in a fast-moving environment
  • Superb interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well in a team
  • Excellent administration skills with the ability to look at improving working practices
