Technical Estimating Assistant

Calder Industrial Materials has significant experience delivering high quality, tailored solutions for a wide range of customers worldwide. We are one of the UK’s leading building materials suppliers, delivering lead sheet and a wide range of ancillary products to builders’ merchants nationwide.

In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. We design, manufacture, and install radiation shielding and other products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, construction, industrial and research markets.

The Role – Technical Estimating Assistant

As the Technical Estimating Assistant, you will be supporting the Technical Estimator by liaising with customers and clearly defining their order requirements, assisting in conducting cost calculations and analysis to determine high value quotations, which will then be presented to the customer. Once an order is secured, you will also assist in preparing the relevant documents to share and discuss with internal customers and suppliers to start the process of delivering the customer order. 

Your duties will include, although will not be limited to:

  • Assisting with producing detailed cost analysis calculations and costings for labour and parts in line with customer requirements
  • Liaising with the Sales team to determine optimal selling price, and submitting quotations to customers
  • Supporting the procurement of materials and preparing internal documentation to initiate manufacture of customer order
  • Monitoring the progress of projects by liaising with colleagues and providing status updates to management and the customer at regular intervals
  • Assisting with contract reviews and pre-production meetings
  • Monitoring actual costs against estimated costs

Our Requirements – Technical Estimating Assistant

  • Previous experience in a cost estimating role / environment
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering / construction drawings
  • IT literate with good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong mathematical ability
  • Superb communication skills
  • Highly organised, with the ability to work on your own initiative

The Package

As the Technical Estimating Assistant, you’ll benefit from:

  • A salary in the region of £19,000 to £22,000, level dependent on experience
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays

You will be employed on a permanent contract, working 35 hours per week, 8.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 12.30pm on Fridays. Flexibility around these core hours will occasionally be required.

You will be based at our offices in Chester, on the outskirts of the city centre conveniently located off Sealand Road.
