Oscar Mayer Wrexham is part of the Oscar Mayer Group, a UK-wide company specialising in manufacturing prepared foods for the top UK grocery retailers such as The Co-Operative, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Aldi and Waitrose.

With 1,500 employees, the Wrexham Industrial Estate site is a very fast-paced operation, with an impressive 2 million ready meals being produced each week.

We are now looking to recruit a Laboratory Technician to ensure all the relevant microbiological testing is carried out in an accurate and efficient manner, with timely reporting to the relevant parties.

 

Main Responsibilities

  • Collection and booking in of samples, ensuring the correct tests are assigned to each sample
  • Performing a variety of microbiological testing on raw materials, chilled products, shelf life samples and swabs (including pathogen testing)
  • Performing speciation tests and allergen testing on raw materials, chilled products and swabs
  • Production of relevant media used in the testing described above
  • Performing testing of effluent samples
  • Recording results accurately and ensuring the Laboratory Manager / Supervisors are aware of any samples that are out of specification
  • Ensuring traceability within the lab is maintained
  • Reporting any faulty or broken equipment to the Laboratory Manager / Supervisor
  • Working within CLAS and company standards at all times
  • To ensure all work is carried out according to the health and safety procedures to reduce the risk of harm to yourselves and others around you
  • General Laboratory Duties including stock control (informing Supervisors & Manager if stocks of external equipment are running low, correct rotation and usage of kits etc, daily calibration, cleaning)

 

Skills required

  • Computer literate
  • Ability to work as part of a small team
  • Experience of working in a laboratory setting would be advantageous
