Electrical or Mechanical Engineer – Rail Vehicle Light Maintenance

What will the role of Electrical or Mechanical Engineer (Rail Shift Fitter) entail?

Working from our Eastleigh (Southampton) depot, as an Electrical or Mechanical Engineer (Rail Shift Fitter) you’ll work as part of the Light Maintenance team and be responsible for efficiently carrying out the maintenance and servicing of rail vehicles. You’ll play an active part in continuously improving product quality, carrying out routine maintenance activities including fault finding, diagnostics and minor repairs, assisting in ensuring rolling stock availability and reliability targets are met as well as operating rail vehicles as required.

You’ll work an average of 39 hours per week, 6:30pm to 6am on a 4 on 4 off night shift roster.

What will I need to be considered for this Electrical or Mechanical Engineer (Rail Shift Fitter) role?

  • Be a time served electrical and / or mechanical engineer with a solid understanding of rail vehicle (preferred), aircraft or heavy plant light maintenance activities
  • Qualified to a minimum of City & Guilds / NVQ Level 3 or BTEC in Engineering, preferably within Rail Traction and Rolling Stock
  • Good understanding of mechanical and electrical engineering and depot operations, with the ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental standards and requirements
  • Driver operator / shunter assessment in relevant class of vehicle (desirable)
