Our Organisation

Established for more than 13 years, Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre is set in 100 acres of spectacular Perthshire scenery in Crieff (Central Scotland), located approximately an hour’s drive away from both Glasgow and Edinburgh. We have a zoo licence and over 40 species of animals, including farm animals and exotic wildlife, ranging from wallabies, meerkats and lemurs to native red deer and Scottish wildcats!

You’ll join as a Zoo Manager at an exciting time in our early developmental phases of planned growth, playing a key role in helping to develop our park, and promoting new collaborations and conservation plans. Our plans include re-developing existing exhibits to recreate natural habitats, encourage enrichment and educate the public. We also have exciting breeding programmes planned, as well as ambitions to create links and collaborate with zoos across the UK.

The Role – Zoo Manager / Wildlife Park Manager

You’ll undertake a hands-on role as Zoo Manager, supporting a small team of Animal Keepers and ensuring the highest standards of care and welfare for all animals. Your further duties will include:

• Promoting collaborations and conservation plans
• Developing natural habitats for the collection
• Communicating and creating links with other zoos, helping us to prepare to embark on our new initiatives
• Carrying out regular health checks and calling in veterinary assistance when required
• Ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed
• Ensuring colleagues are receiving adequate training and supervision
• Carrying out daily record keeping and basic admin tasks
• Managing inventories and stocks
• Ensuring legal compliance

Our Requirements – Zoo Manager / Wildlife Park Manager

• Proven experience working in a zoo, animal park, or similar environment
• Experience managing a team of Animal Keepers
• A formal qualification in a related subject e.g., Zoology or similar
• Desire to continue learning and developing skills through additional training
• Creativity and imagination to develop natural habitats for the collection
• Prepared to work weekends and during Bank Holidays / school holidays

The Package

• Permanent contract, working full time hours between 8:30am and 5pm, 5 days out of 7 per week on a rota (with two consecutive days off)
• Salary of £26,000
• 28 days annual leave, extending to 35 days annual leave after the first year of employment
