Junior Draughtsman (Mechanical Design and Engineering)

Unimaq Ltd is a global leader specialising in the design, development and manufacturing of large precision machines and equipment to print preformed beverage cans at speeds exceeding 2000 cans per minute. The fully automated high-speed machines are designed, manufactured, built, and tested in Wrexham before being exported all over the world.

Person Specification - Junior Draughtsman (Mechanical Design and Engineering)

This role requires a hands-on, practically minded and meticulous individual to bring value to Unimaq’s Engineering Department. The successful candidate must have a professional attitude, strong communication skills and a possess a good level of written English.

A proven understanding of both Mathematics and Physics is also a prerequisite, reinforced by a strong curiosity surrounding mechanical design and engineering. The candidate should embrace the task of problem solving in any scenario, and be willing to collaborate with the rest of the department to find solutions.

A significant portion of the role will revolve around technical documentation, therefore an eye for detail when creating and reviewing drawings, SOPs and user manuals is essential. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Unimaq is seeking an individual with a strong ambition to self-develop, with Unimaq offering the promise of well-supported learning and mentoring from the outset.

Job Specification - Junior Draughtsman (Mechanical Design and Engineering)

The role will initially consist of tasks focused on supporting the other members of the Engineering Department. These tasks will include, but not be limited to:

  • Modifying drawings in response to Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and user manuals
  • Liaising with the Assembly Team to obtain feedback on part design and Bills of Materials (BOMs) during ongoing projects
  • Maintaining the integrity of engineering-specific data within Unimaq’s MRP system
  • Building simple BOM’s and individual parts within Unimaq’s MRP system

Following a successful 6-month probation period, the opportunity will present itself to increase the level of responsibility on the role. It is important to understand that this role will include a considerable amount of repetitiveness in following processes, and it is critical that high standards are always maintained.

As a Junior Draughtsman / Technician, you’ll be part of a friendly working environment at our site on the Wrexham Industrial Estate in North Wales, where you’ll be well-supported and mentored from the outset.

  • Salary of £17,000 to £21,000
  • Private pension and healthcare cover after one years’ service
  • Permanent contract with full time hours, Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm
