Highways Engineer

Superb opportunity for an experienced Highways Engineer to join civil engineering consultancy Aleon, on a 24-month contract with the potential for this to be extended.

You will be working at the sites of numerous projects in the East Riding of Yorkshire area on new highway design, highway maintenance, improvement, and construction schemes.

Your normal working hours will be around 37 to 40 per week within Monday to Friday, with occasional unsociable hours and possible weekend work.

You can choose to either be employed on a PAYE basis with an hourly rate in the region of £22.00 to £30.00 (level dependent on experience and qualifications), or you can choose to work on a self-employed basis, where you will receive a pay rate in the region of £25 to £35 per hour level dependent on experience. Mileage expenses will be paid where applicable.

What will this role of Highways Engineer entail?

You will be joining a friendly consultancy with the opportunity to undertake highway project feasibility, design and coordination on all aspects of your projects through to construction completion using NEC3 ECC forms of contract, for both major and minor projects on sites across the East Riding area.

You will build upon your existing highways design experience and apply your working knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations throughout, whilst maintaining financial control of your projects.

To be considered for this Highways Engineer vacancy, ideally you will have:

  • Proven experience with design of highways and civil engineering projects as a Highways Engineer
  • A full, valid driving licence with own means of transport
  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Minimum HNC or equivalent in a relevant discipline, along with a valid CSCS card
  • Demonstrable experience of application of highway design standards, including DMRB in your design work
  • Competency in the use of AutoCAD and Autodesk Civil3D
  • Demonstrable experience of the development of highways contract works information, including contract drawings and appendices to the DfT Specification for Highway Works Vol.1
  • Working knowledge of NEC3 ECC contracts within the civil engineering sector, and MCDHW
  • Up to date knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations and Chapter 8 Traffic Management
  • Proactive approach to work, and the ability to manage your own workload ensuring projects are completed to a high standard
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Office

Although not essential, knowledge of NRSWA and working/consulting with Statutory Undertakers is highly desirable, as is having a solid understanding of contract programmes.
