HSE Officer (Health, Safety, and Environmental)

In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. We design, manufacture, and install radiation shielding and other products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, construction, industrial and research markets.

The Role – HSE Officer (Health, Safety, and Environmental)

Reporting to the Health, Safety and Environmental Manager, you’ll help to take the lead in delivering world-class HSE performance across our organisation, creating an environment which encourages engagement with HSE, and ensuring colleagues are complying with health and safety laws, policies and procedures. You’ll do this by providing Managers with training and advice and taking accountability for the operational implementation of HSE functional work.

Your duties will include:

  • Ensuring the business is fully up to speed with current and planned changes to HSE legislation, attending courses and events and liaising with industry HSE bodies
  • Completing all actions required to ensure compliance with legislation, company policies and procedures, including relating to contractors and visitors
  • Completing audits and reporting to ensure we maintain our HSE BSi accreditations
  • Inspecting HSE related equipment and mechanisms
  • Carrying out investigations into HSE related incidents, ensuring emergency procedures are in place, and that all required PPE is available
  • Conducting risk assessments, advising managers on implementation including procedures, communications, PPE and other safety related mechanisms
  • Developing and implementing appropriate training for managers and employees
  • Supporting managers in delivering their HSE objectives, and reporting on HSE performance
  • Developing creative and innovative ideas to improve HSE performance

The Package

As HSE Officer, you’ll benefit from:

  • A salary in the region of £36,000, negotiable dependent on experience and qualifications
  • Permanent contract, working 35 hours per week, Monday to Thursday, 8:30am to 5pm, and Friday 8:30am to 12:30pm
  • Based at our premises located on Sealand Road, on the outskirts of Chester City Centre

Our Requirements – HSE Officer (Health, Safety, and Environmental)

  • Proven experience in a similar hands-on HSE role, within a manufacturing / production / engineering environment
  • Experience of implementing modern and highly progressive HSE practices, and of managing HSE systems
  • Possess a NEBOSH General Certificate
  • Good IT literacy with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Resilient, with a highly disciplined and change-oriented approach to work
