The Role – Senior IT Support Engineer (3rd Line Technical Support)

Based at our Head Office at Tanfield Lea (County Durham), as a Senior IT Support Engineer you’ll be providing both on-site and off-site support for our clients, taking responsibility for implementing solutions and resolving a wide range of technical issues, whilst delivering outstanding levels of service to a diverse range of businesses.

We support our clients with a variety of leading software and hardware solutions, in terms of software we primarily provide support with Microsoft products, however, we also provide support for Sage, Adobe, Apple and Android mobile OS, as well as network printing and back-up technologies. In relation to hardware we focus on HP, HP Enterprise, Aruba, Cisco, and Meraki products, in addition to setting up firewalls and network switches and servers.

You’ll be provided with access to the latest support tools, remote monitoring, management and automation tools enabling you to provide the highest level of technical expertise and support.

Your duties will include, although not be limited to:

  • Conducting new system implementation and installations including but not limited to; server upgrades and virtualisation, network installations, and upgrading / provisioning of other new hardware or software solutions
  • Providing advanced support and troubleshooting for systems, including all technology aspects such as infrastructure, connectivity, servers and end-user-devices
  • Managing critical incidents and communicating effectively with clients to ensure the incident is resolved as quickly as possible with minimum disruption
  • Supporting 1st and 2nd line support colleagues with complex technical issues and their personal development
  • Providing regular client updates, documenting changes and updating systems

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 39 hours per week Monday to Thursday 8:30am to 5:30pm, with a 4:30pm finish on Fridays. You’ll be part of an on-call rota, and there will be occasional weekend work (typically once every 2 to 3 months) required to meet business needs.

Our Requirements - Senior IT Support Engineer (3rd Line Technical Support)

  • Proven experience as a Senior IT Support Engineer / 3rd Line Technical Support Engineer
  • Experience of administering, supporting and troubleshooting the latest Microsoft technologies including Windows Desktop (7, 8, 10), Windows Server 2008 (including SBS Derivatives) to 2019, and Microsoft Exchange Server, SQL Server and Office 365 Services
  • Technical knowledge of Active Directory administration and troubleshooting, backup applications such as Acronis, Veritas, Windows Server Backup, and troubleshooting of virtual server environments (Hyper-V)
  • Experience of managing and troubleshooting networks including VLANS, VPNs, Routing, Firewall, DHCP, DNS and multi-site connectivity
  • Full UK driving licence

Although not essential, the following experience or certifications would be highly advantageous:

  • Active Directory implementation and administration including integration with Azure AD
  • Design and implementation of Microsoft Exchange, SQL and Office 365 environments, and of virtual server infrastructure (Hyper-V, AWS, VMWare)
  • Network design and implementation including VLANS, VPNs, Routing, Firewall, DHCP, DNS and multi-site connectivity
  • Cisco CCNA or similar certification
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate or Expert certification
  • Sage Accounts / Payroll applications
