Chef (Head Chef) – Sociable hours of 10am to 6pm, working 5 days out of 7

Our Organisation

The Cheltenham Trust is an independent charity that manages five iconic venues at the heart of Cheltenham including the Pittville Pump Room, Cheltenham Town Hall, Wilson Art Gallery and Museum, Leisure at Cheltenham, and the Prince of Wales Stadium.

Following an exciting refurbishment and re-design, Cheltenham’s leading cultural hub The Wilson Museum and Art Gallery will include a vibrant new arts café for the local community and visitors to Cheltenham.

The Role – Chef (Head Chef)

Reporting to our Executive Head Chef, you’ll have the unique opportunity to play a key role in growing our new café by helping to develop a creative menu, and working as part of a close-knit team that delivers a memorable experience for customers. Your duties will include:

  • Taking the lead on organising all kitchen activities
  • Creating and preparing new seasonal menus and dishes, following and creating new and exciting trends
  • Managing food stock rotation and the ordering of products
  • Planning and catering for small private functions with support from the unit kitchen team
  • Ensuring kitchen regulations are met, including food hygiene and health and safety guidelines
  • Delivering great presentation of food and our products, showcasing local producers 
  • Analysing menu and product sales and making changes where applicable

The Package

  • Permanent contract
  • Full time hours, working highly sociable hours of 10am to 6pm, 40 hours per week working 5 days out of 7 on a rolling rota
  • Some flexibility with days worked and option to have set days off, e.g., Sunday and Monday depending on business needs

  • Salary in the region of £24,000 to £26,000, with the level dependent on experience

Our Requirements – Chef (Head Chef)

  • Experience gained as a Chef (e.g., Sous Chef / Head Chef) in a fast-paced kitchen environment
  • Basic Food Hygiene certificate
  • Confidence to lead a team, with excellent communication skills
  • Customer-focused, flexible, motivated, team-player approach

Although not essential as full training will be provided, an NVQ Level 1 / 2 / 3 in a food related subject, would be advantageous.
