Retail Deputy Team Leader

East Midland Zoological Society has been running Twycross Zoo for almost 60 years in the heart of England in Atherstone. We are an award-winning conservation and science-led zoo, and are a registered charity, welcoming over half a million people every year.

To meet seasonal requirements our Retail Team fluctuates between 30 to 40 colleagues, and every single team member means a lot to us.

You’ll play a key role in helping us achieve our exciting plans for 2022 as we come back bigger and better post-Covid.

The Role – Retail Deputy Team Leader

Reporting to the Retail Team Leader and Retail Manager, as Retail Deputy Team Leader you’ll assist with the day-to-day operations in our retail outlets including stock, merchandising, staffing and health and safety.

Your duties will include, although will not be limited to:

• Managing, motivating, and training team members and leading by example, whilst demonstrating best customer service
• Assisting with daily site checks including ride checks, and ensuring tills are set up for the day
• Performing any “hands-on” duties as required including replenishment, merchandising, and deliveries
• Handling customer complaints professionally, proactively finding solutions and escalating where appropriate
• Completing administrative tasks including audits and stock reports
• Assisting with people management including undertaking 1-2-1’s and any formal processes

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 5 days out of 7 per week on a rota. You’ll work an average of 43 hours per week, and average working hours are 9am to 6:30pm in the summer months and 9am to 5pm in the winter months. Flexibility with days and hours worked is essential for this role.

Our Requirements – Retail Deputy Team Leader

• Experience gained as a Retail Supervisor or Retail Team Leader
• Ability to motivate and lead a team of individuals, with an organised and can-do approach
• Good computer skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Willingness to be flexible with tasks and hours
• A keen interest in the zoo’s work and purpose

You will be required to undertake first aid training to achieve a First Aid at Work certificate and become part of the zoo’s on call first aid rota.
