Senior Stress Engineer (Aerospace)

What will this role of Senior Stress Engineer entail?

As Senior Stress Engineer, you’ll work within the Stress Department which is responsible for the analysis and verification of the strength of the company’s products, from simple hydraulic valves to complete landing gear systems. This includes the evaluation of loads, calculation of static & fatigue stress levels and the compilation of qualification test requirements. Your duties will include, although not be limited to:

  • Determining applied loads on components by interpretation of system drawings and specifications using classical methods or computer simulation tools
  • Performing hand stress calculations using standard methods and data sheets
  • Determining fatigue life of components using classical Miners type calculations and computer simulation software
  • Producing Finite Element Analyses of components and systems using ABAQUS software
  • Translating specification and airworthiness requirements into qualification test procedures
  • Producing reports on analyses and tests to a standard sufficient for issue to Civil and Military Airworthiness Authorities
  • Presenting information to colleagues and customers
  • Supervising teams of Engineers, planning and allocating workload effectively

What will I need to be considered for this Senior Stress Engineer vacancy?

  • Proven experience of stress analysis, preferably gained within the aerospace industry
  • Experience of Finite Element Analysis
  • Knowledge of fatigue analysis methods
  • IT literate, with strong working knowledge of Microsoft software
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to deliver presentations and compile reports
  • Be a creative and innovative problem solver, with good analytical skills
  • Have the ability to work as part of a team as well as autonomously
  • A proactive ‘can do’ attitude, with a positive nature

Although not essential, experience in the use of ABAQUS and ABAQUS / CAE is desirable for this role, although training can be provided.

What will I receive in return?

Based at the Runcorn site, as a Senior Stress Engineer you’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working Monday to Thursday 8am to 4:30pm and 8am to 1pm on a Friday.
