Service Head – NSPCC Helplines

Want to make a positive impact on thousands of families across the UK? This is an amazing opportunity to join our team as a Helpline Service Head, where you will use your extensive knowledge and skills in safeguarding and child protection to ensure high-quality service delivery in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

Why join the NSPCC Helpline?

The NSPCC Helpline is a place where adults can get advice or share their concerns about a child, anonymously if they wish. Across multiple sites, the Helpline receives over 400,000 contacts every year from adults, children and young people who require a professional service.

The NSPCC’s vision is to end cruelty to all children in the UK. An ambitious but worthwhile mission — and one you will help achieve as the Helpline Service Head.

The Role of Helpline Service Head

You’ll be responsible for ensuring all services operating within the Helplines are delivered to the highest standards. Your strategic focus will enable you to contribute to service, division, and organisation-wide management forums, and as part of the duty management rota you will have a direct impact on service delivery by providing live oversight and support in the Helpline environment.

Effective communication is pivotal to the continued success of the service delivery; therefore, it will be imperative to maintain close working relationships with external stakeholders, and senior staff in HR, Communications, Strategy, Policy and Evidence, Legal, Fundraising and Services for Children and Families, along with Service Head Helplines across the NSPCC Helpline.

Whilst managing the Helpline budget, with the support of your direct reports you will recruit, manage and develop helplines staff, ensuring all practitioners are well equipped to deliver the service to the high-quality standard deserved.

Our Requirements – Helpline Service Head

  • Significant management experience delivering a safeguarding service in a statutory or voluntary setting, such as healthcare, social care, education or child protection
  • A professionally recognised social work qualification or another relevant professional qualification
  • Experience working closely with partner agencies and stakeholders to achieve better outcomes for children
  • The ability to motivate a large team of people based in different locations to achieve service objectives and meet key performance indicators

The Package

This is a fantastic opportunity for you to develop your child protection expertise within a unique and highly influential national service, to work for an organisation whose core value is putting children first and for you to personally make a positive impact on thousands of families across the UK.

As a Helpline Service Head, you’ll receive a salary of £41,736 to £49,101, with the level dependent on experience. You’ll also receive fantastic additional benefits, including:

  • 29 days annual leave plus bank holidays (rising to 32 days after five years’ continuous service)
  • Pension and life assurance
  • Access to the NSPCC ‘Employee Assistance Scheme’
  • A wide range of discounts and promotional offers on everything from meals out to mobile phones and household appliances
  • Access to wellbeing initiatives
  • Plus many more perks

You’ll be based at our modern offices in Birmingham and employed on a permanent contract, working 35 hours per week. You’ll be required to undertake some day and evening shift work, which will be approximately 7 days in a 12-week period. In addition, you’ll participate in an on-call management rota (1 week in 4).

All applications for this Service Head – NSPCC Helplines role are to be submitted online.
