Head of Cheese Production (Food Manufacturing / FMCG)

With a rich history dating back to 1938, South Caernarfon Creameries is one of Wales’ main cheese production and cheese packaging companies, supplying to well-known supermarket brands such as Sainsburys, Lidl and Aldi. With a workforce of 160 employees and a turnover level of £60 million, we are developing at significant pace.

An ambitious 5-year growth plan is underway, which will see production levels increasing, employee numbers growing, and the ability to deliver services to a wider customer base. Heavy investment has been high on the agenda in recent years, with significant investment focused on a brand-new production plant and high-tech machinery. What will the role of Head of Cheese Production (Food Manufacturing / FMCG) entail?

We pride ourselves on producing award-winning, exceptional Welsh dairy products, and as the Head of Cheese Production, you will be supporting the Head of Factory Operations in managing the production of our high-quality cheese products.

You’ll be managing the cheese room activities, utilising cutting-edge technology and effectively managing and leading the Production Team to achieve the highest levels of quality, safety, and hygiene standards, whilst maximising throughput.

This is a key leadership position where you’ll be responsible for training, motivating and developing members of the Production Team, and playing a pivotal role as we progress through our exciting growth plans.

What will I need to be considered for this Head of Cheese Production (Food Manufacturing / FMCG) vacancy?

  • Proven managerial experience within food manufacturing / production, with the ability to effectively run and manage a high-quality manufacturing operation
  • Food Safety Level 3, IOSH and HACCP certified
  • Strong leadership and motivational skills
  • Superb problem solving skills with the ability to instigate effective corrective action, and capable of assisting engineering in fault finding and developing processes when necessary

Knowledge and experience of cheese making, and a degree level qualification in a relevant manufacturing discipline would be highly desirable and advantageous for this role.

As a Head of Cheese Production, you’ll receive an attractive salary with the level dependent on experience, along with generous benefits including an enhanced company pension contribution at 5%, life assurance, and an annual leave entitlement of 25 days plus bank holidays.

Contract: Permanent, with full time hours working 39 hours per week Monday to Friday.

Location: Chwilog, near Pwllheli (Gwynedd County, North Wales)
