Helpline Practitioner (Safeguarding)

Do you have safeguarding experience gained through your work as either a nurse, teacher, child protection officer, social worker or similar? Would you thrive in a role where you’ll be provided with the structure and resources to develop your child protection expertise within a unique and highly influential national service?

If so, read on to discover more about this permanent contract opportunity to join theNSPCC, a leading children's charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK.

PLEASE NOTE: By clicking apply on this site, you will automatically be redirected to the NSPCC website, where you will be required to complete an online application.

What will this role of Helpline Practitioner entail?

With empathy, sensitivity and common sense you will provide emotional support, practical guidance and help to anyone who thinks a child may be at risk of abuse. Working as an advisor to adults and young people across the UK, you will encourage and empower them to look out for the children around them - to take action and give children a voice when they are unable to ask for help themselves, with safeguarding being the primary focus.

You will be providing advice and assistance to the public via telephone, email, text and through social media. Using your knowledge of current childcare legislation, you will be responsible for assessing the risk of the situation and then liaising with external child protection authorities (Children’s Services, Police) to ensure prompt and effective action is taken to minimise the risk to any child.

Why join the NSPCC Helpline?

The NSPCC Helpline is a place where adults can get advice or share their concerns about a child, anonymously if they wish. The passionate team of professional practitioners with backgrounds in jobs such as teaching, healthcare and social work with experience in safeguarding, know how to spot the signs of abuse and what to do to help - their priority is to empower the public to protect children and young people.

These are fantastic opportunities for you to work for an organisation whose core value is putting children first, and where you can personally make a positive impact on thousands of families across the UK. The NSPCC’s vision is to end cruelty to all children in the UK. An ambitious but worthwhile mission — and one you will help achieve as a Helpline Practitioner (Safeguarding).

The Package

As a Helpline Practitioner, you’ll receive a salary of£24,000, plus 3.5% rota disturbance allowance. Fantastic additional benefits include:

  • Pension, life assurance and access to the NSPCC ‘Employee Assistance Scheme’
  • A wide range of discounts and promotional offers on everything from meals out to mobile phones and household appliances

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working full time 35 hours per week on a rota working pattern that covers the period 7.30am to 11pm on weekdays and 8.30am to 7pm on weekends.

You’ll work from our modern offices in Belfast, Northern Ireland, just off Junction 1A of the M2.
