Machinist (Conventional and CNC Machines) - x2 vacancies available

Working 36 hours over 4 days per week

In addition, Calder are also the UK’s leading specialist in lead engineering. We design, manufacture, and install radiation shielding and other products for the nuclear, defence, healthcare, construction, industrial and research markets.

The Role – Machinist

Reporting to the Machine Shop Cell Leader, you will be responsible for the operation of various conventional and CNC machine tools, with your duties to include, although will not be limited to:

  • Setting and operating machine tools including lathes, milling machines, pedestal drills, radial arm drill, bench and surface grinders, along with various CNC lathes and CNC milling machines
  • Ensuring that health, safety, environmental and quality standards are complied with
  • Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
  • Ensuring job clocking / worksheets are completed as required
  • Advising Supervisors of any relevant issues that may arise and implementing corrective actions that have been issued

Our Requirements – Machinist

  • Be a time-served Machinist, with experience in a fast-paced machine shop
  • Ability to plan method of work (including tooling, jigs and fixtures etc.) and measure accurately and work within +/- 0.025mm
  • Proven experience of writing / editing programs
  • Be fully conversant in the use of inspection equipment
  • Superb time management skills
  • Be a team player with a positive mindset, and always willing to learn

Although not essential, a recognised qualification in CNC programming and / or experience with HaaS machinery / Fanuc 18-t series, would be advantageous.

You’ll be employed on a permanent contract, working 36 hours per week Monday to Thursday, on a rotational shift pattern, covering 5am to 2pm and 2pm to 11pm.

You will be based at our premises in Chester, on the outskirts of the city centre conveniently located off Sealand Road.
