The Role – Apprentice Assembly Technician

As an Apprentice Assembly Technician, you’ll continue to attend college on a day-release basis whilst honing the skills you learn in the workplace for the remainder of the week.

Upon the completion of your Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Manufacturing Engineering/Fitting and Assembly, your newly qualified role will involve the manufacture of landing gear for small to medium sized military and commercial aircrafts. This will include fighter jets, helicopters, transport planes, and unmanned aircraft. You’ll report directly to the Area Team Leader, working to detailed engineering drawings and to Standard Operating Procedures.

Depending on whether you become a specialist or a ‘multi-duty’ Technician, your role will include although will not be limited to:

  • Assembling and testing landing gear accumulators, pumps, non-return valves, commercial hydraulic components, and sub-assemblies
  • Investigating faults and conducting repairs / servicing on landing gear components
  • Self-inspecting work and completing quality control documentation
  • Assisting with the continuous improvement of the manufacturing process

Our Requirements – Apprentice Assembly Technician

  • Already completed first year of college-based Technical Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering or achieved an NVQ Level 2 Diploma in Performing Engineering Operations (PEO)
  • GCSE Grade A* to C in Maths and English or equivalent (Level 2)
  • Enthusiasm for engineering in the aerospace sector
  • Mechanical aptitude and methodical approach to tasks
  • Superb communication and team working skills
  • Self-motivation and excellent problem-solving skills

The Package

You’ll initially be employed on an apprenticeship contract which will lead to a permanent contract, and you’ll receive an enhanced Apprenticeship Rate with fixed progression of salary during the apprenticeship. Your salary after completing your apprenticeship will depend on experience. Attractive benefits include 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays, company pension scheme, and salary sacrifice healthcare scheme.

Hours of work will be Monday to Thursday 8am to 4:30pm, and Friday 8am to 1pm. Although during the apprenticeship you will be attending college one day per week during term time.
