Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Trainee (x2 vacancies available)

Our Company

Luxfer MEL Technologies is a global leader in the development, manufacture and supply of Magnesium and Zirconium based products and services to technology industries worldwide. We have approximately 300 employees across the UK and US.

Zirconium chemicals are produced at the Swinton site from a range of raw materials. Our lightweight magnesium alloys are machined or extruded to custom shapes and specifications to meet our customer requirements, and are used in high performance, safety critical aerospace, defence, healthcare, oil and gas and Formula 1.

The Role – Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Trainee

As a Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Trainee, you will be working towards a recognised qualification from The IoSCM, starting at Level 2 and working all the way up to Level 5 within 4 years.

You’ll be working closely with colleagues within the Planning / Procurement / Despatch teams, and your training and studies will enable you to schedule resources to ensure customer requirements are met on time and in the most efficient way. You’ll also be preparing production plans and raising purchase orders for equipment and supplies, maintaining good supplier relations and negotiating contracts. Your duties will also include, although not be limited to:

  • Mastering the scheduling of resource requirements
  • Communicating planning requirements by issuing production plans and attending regular planning meetings, along with sales and operation planning process meetings
  • Managing inventories, and preparing status and production plan performance reports
  • Working closely with colleagues to ensure demand can be satisfied, adapting where necessary to ensure our customers’ needs are put first
  • Scheduling and managing sub-contracted processes
  • Arranging transport and preparing paperwork for the timely despatch of goods, and managing incoming deliveries
  • Actively supporting the implementation of the principles of Luxfer’s LEAN manufacturing BEST module
  • Supporting procurement projects including sourcing of raw materials, and discussing specifications and requirements with colleagues and suppliers

Our Requirements – Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Trainee

  • A minimum of 5 GCSEs including English, Maths and Science (grade A* to C / 9 to 4) or equivalent
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Good IT skills, with working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Strong numeracy skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Be a team player with a committed, flexible and positive approach to work
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to prioritise tasks and work well under pressure

The Package

As a Planning, Supply Chain and Logistics Trainee, you will join the team based within our Swinton (Greater Manchester) office, and benefit from:

  • A salary of £14,500, plus up to 15% bonus per annum, to increase over time once you have completed your IoSCM qualification, plus bonus
  • A fully paid for level qualification from The IoSCM
  • Range of allowances available for additional duties including first aid, mental health first aid, internal auditors, quality champions and many more
  • 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • A permanent contract, working 37 hours per week within Monday to Friday (flexibility required to meet the needs of the business)
